The tireless efforts of the state government in boosting tourism are now yielding positive outcomes. Over the past few years, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council has been actively organizing various initiatives to enhance adventure tourism within the state. During a recent awards ceremony, states such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya, Delhi, and others participated , Among them Rishikesh Uttarakhand, has been honored as the Best Adventure Destination.
In this regard, on March 28, 2025, the India Today Group awarded Rishikesh the title of Best Adventure Destination at the India Today Tourism Survey and Awards 2025 held in New Delhi. The award was presented by Shri Gajendra Shekhawat, the Minister of Tourism, Government of India, and was received on behalf of the state by Mr. Sachin Kurve, Secretary Tourism/Chief Executive Officer of Uttarakhand.
While receiving the award, Mr. Sachin Kurve, Secretary Tourism/CEO, stated that the Tourism Department is working to promote adventure activities and develop lesser-known tourist destinations in the state, thereby increasing tourist inflow.
He also mentioned that to promote astronomical tourism (Astro Tourism) in the state, various events such as ‘Nakshatra Sabhas’ (star meetings) have been organized at different locations, offering activities like stargazing, solar observation, and astrophotography competitions. This initiative has made Uttarakhand the first state in India to launch an annual campaign in the field of Astro Tourism.
