Renowned for being the world’s single largest private collection of crystal under one roof this impressive collection never got to be used, because it was still sailing on the high seas from England when Maharana Sajjan Singh, who had ordered it, unexpectedly passed away. Don’t miss what is purported to be the only crystal bed in the world which is part of this exquisite collection manufactured by the Birmingham-based F&C Osler company. You will also enjoy viewings of the equally fascinating Vintage Car Museum.
At sunset find yourself at Bansi Ghat for a most spectacular end to the day. Alternatively, surrender yourself to the charms of a sunset boat ride on Lake Fateh Sagar. Machala Hill, accessible by the ropeway, is another superb vantage point in the city to enjoy those delightful sunset views.
At twilight head out for Manek Chowk where you get wrapped up in Udaipur’s illustrious past in the superb sound and light show. You have a choice for dining at the Darikhana restaurant in the Jag Mandir, a lake island summer retreat on Lake Pichola dating to the 1600s. Jag Mandir once offered refuge to the fugitive Prince Khurram who had raised a mutiny against his father, Mughal emperor Jehangir. The boat ride offers a spectacular showcase of the shoreline, aglitter with the illuminations of the palaces, havelis, and shrines that crowd the lakeside.
Courting your loved one doesn’t need to end on Valentine’s Day in this romance-inspiring city. Spillover your romantic escape for another day in this fairytale city. Plan on a short excursion to nearby Sajjangarh with its hilltop palace. Soak in those spectacular visuals of Udaipur spread out below. If you are in town during the rains this is the place to be for those fabulous visuals of the boisterous black rainclouds sweeping across Udaipur and advancing towards this palace, originally conceived as a monsoon palace, just for this spectacular experience.
Bring along a picnic basket and enjoy a private twosome lunch with some bubbly in these uncrowded environs. You can arrange for a private safari just for the two of you at the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary. Alternately, if you are both adventure buffs, you can do a short trek instead. Some popular spots in the sanctuary are Gorilla Point, Tiger Lake, and Machla Magra.You might want to stay away from the adjoining Sajjangarh Biological Park which bustles with families with kids arriving to explore this zoological attraction.
If you really want to leave the crowds behind travel 6km away from Fateh Sagar Lake to the Bahubali Hills and the adjoining Badi Lake. This area has become one of the biggest hits for honeymooning escapees and couples looking for that extra privacy from the world.
Alternatively, you might feel like spending your day in the serene environs of Amarchandiya Lake, 30km from Udaipur. Located on the road to Kumbhalgarh it’s perfect for boating, trekking, and generally just chilling out. You can stay at one of the tents on hire at this spot which is popular also for birdwatching opportunities.
Royal Udaipur will always remain a worthy choice for Valentine’s Day as well as a honeymoon destination, simply because it is perfectly geared to weave many magical moments with its alluring offerings of timeless beauty, and atmospheric spots to script those tales of romance.
